The International School of Choueifat, Sharjah is a branch of the International School of Choueifat located in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates that follows the 'SABIS' system. The school opened in 1975 and is located just beside the cricket stadium in Sharjah. It was the first Choueifat School in the whole middle-eastern region. It has 3,000 students, two indoor swimming pools, a football field, several full-sized basketball and football courts, two cricket nets, two squash courts, 2 multipurpose, air-conditioned, indoor gymnasiums, one outdoor canteen and one indoor canteen. The management of SABIS would have parents believe that many of their students go on to attend the top-class universities around the world. They even boast that they have so-called certificates placed in the foyers of their schools. However, in point of fact, few ex-choueifat students attend the Ivy League universities. The students who do attend university complain bitterly that the SABIS system did not prepare them for university life. Many former teachers of the system complain bitterly about the old-fashioned, non-creative and anachronistic approach endoctrinated into students by SABIS. It is clear that the primary goal of SABIS is to make enough money as they can from education with total disregard to the educational development of students. Recent legal proceeding in the United States pointed out the mismanagement of State funds by this organization. "However, in recent years its reputation has been tarnished by accusations of fraud and mismanagement. Many teachers leave the SABIS system complaining of an over-vigorous and draconian management style. Many students who go on to University complain that the SABIS system did not adequately prepare them for university life. Nowadays, the owners of the school spend most of what the school earns on buying themselves big cars, big homes and by improving their lifestyles. The core philosophy of SABIS/Choueifat is to make as much profit from education as they are able. SABIS does not invest in technology in their schools and teachers often complain about the lack of resources. For example, some schools do not have "white boards" and use traditional "chalk boards". Teachers are encouraged to economise when using chalk or board pens. Students also complain about the harsh system the school follows this is because they have to spend all their time studying for daily exams.Air conditioners don't work in the school.

Is Private school better than a public school

Is Private school better than a public school?
I am currently putting my kids in a private school(for preschool). I am planning on moving them to Public schools for KG. I have been getting some mixed reviews about it. some say kids get the most academically in private schools. Any inputs/comments?

I assume you're American which makes it harder because I don't know that much about American schooling, so I guess I'll just talk generally and hope it's relevent. In England, private school kids are hated by non-private school kids, mainly, because they think they're better than the rest of us, and private school kids hate non private school kids because they think they're better than us. At private school you get no social education. You get no preparation for the real world, where you meet people from all backgrounds everyday. You can nearly always tell a private school kid from a non private school kid - they walk different, talk different, look different, and have this air about them like the world has always bent over backwards to do their bidding and yet they aren't even aware or thankful. They are incredibly arrogant. At private school people are not accepted, they are bullied for being different in any way. If you're not in with the right people, wearing the right clothes, listening to the right music, having the right parties, going to right places, having the right parents, smoking the right crap and drinking too much you're labelled as Wrong. Private school kids I know are sexually active, drinking, smoking and doing drugs before us normal people even consider it, because they are told they can do no wrong. I know many people from both sorts of school, and I can tell you that at least where I live this is the absolute truth, and not too biased because my best friend is at a private school. State schools in England are now getting better academic results that private schools by record amounts. English universities are now discriminating against private school kids. No one likes a snob. No one likes a toff. Private school kids are snobs, even if they weren't before they went there. Please, please, please do the best thing for your kids' future. Send them to public school. To validate my points: I am 16, I have an IQ of 140, I am predicted 8 A*s and 2 As for GCSE and plan to read music at Oxford university. I have friends I'd trust with my life, a boyfriend who loves and respects me, and I'm the happiest I've ever been. I'm not a fan of the class system, but my parents would be described as upper middle class, and we have a large but not extravagent income. Basically I'm a good person, I'm doing well, teachers use me as a role model. What has state school not done for me?

UM DEPENDS PRIVATE SCHOOLS HAVE BETTER FOOD AND SOME BETTER TEACHERS AND THEY MAKE THEM DO THERE FIRST COMMUNION PUBLIC SCHOOLS:THERES MORE VOILENCE WITH GANGS BUT IT ALSO TEACHES KIDS TO STAND UP 4 THEMSELFS .THE EDUCATION THEY GET DEPENDS ON THE SCHOOL AND ESPECIALLY THE PRINCIPAL SOME MAY HAVE GOOD OR BAD TEACHERS

That totally depends on the school. You cannot generalize in that manner.

Answer 4
I go to a private school, and personally I don't think theres much point putting your children in at preschool stage - as there are many really good public schools which teach them the skills they need. However, I do think that the atmosphere in private schools (well in mine anyway) is great when it comes to secondary school, and that the teachers do everything they can to help us. But as others have said, it really does depend on the school, as I have many friends who go to public school, who are very clever.

Answer 5
I go to a private high school. It certainly is an advantage to go to a private high school because I get more attention from the teachers and we are very competitive when it comes to grades. The downside to it is that private school kids tend to be very sheltered.

How do I write a book review for school

How do I write a book review for school?
I need to read 1776 for my US History Class as a Pre-Class Assignment (Summer Work) and I need to write a 5 page book review (double spaced size 12) I don't know how to write a book review. What should I include/leave out?
Other - Education - 1 Answers - 2008-07-31 23:34:21

Best Answer
Begin with a small introduction to the book itself. Title, author, etc. In the same paragraph, include a 1 - 2 sentence summary of the book. Since you were required to read this book, write one sentence saying why or why not you enjoyed it, if allowed. For the body paragraphs, break the book into sections. For example, section one could be chapters 1 - 4. Summarize these chapters in your first paragraph. Continue in this fashion... For your conclusion, briefly rewrite your intro. Summarize your summaries. Use big words and Spell Check constantly. If you're really stressing as to getting five pages, make the margins slightly smaller. Check out sparknotes.com. I visit the site whenever I'm confused on a book, it's very helpful. Don't plagiarize, though. Hope this helped, and good luck in your studies!

Is the art institute a good school for culinary arts

Is the art institute a good school for culinary arts?
I live in Michigan and cannot relocate. the only school I think here is the Art Institutes in Novi (detroit) I have read mixed reviews and this location opened last year. I don't really have a choice as far as schools since this is the only one. I guess I just would like opinions. Has anyone attended any of the locations? What did /didn't you like about them? Thanks in advance!

Is college just a basic review of high school?
I know your major courses are different but I'm currently in my first semester and I'm paying hundreds on books and tuition just to learn correct grammar and 9th grade algebra all over again? Don't get me wrong I know the first year is general education but damn seriously, is it like this the whole first year?

you should ask because your money is going to waste thats bullshit

Answer 4
It could be that the courses you enrolled in are very basic. If you are scoring 100's on the tests, and ace-ing everything, request transfer to a higher class. College was nothing like High School for me. Every subject was challenging compared to High School, except Math, which was merely equal to High School (but our HS was renowned for Math).
2009-11-17 16:28:49

Answer 5
You should have taken placement tests when you entered your school, and that test would tell the counselor what classes you are capable of learning. If you did not take a placement test, and you are studying below 100 series classes, then you need to ask if you can take the placement test to go to a higher class. You may have also misunderstood the counselor or whoever helped you choose the classes, but whatever, don't continue spending hundreds of dollars on something you don't need. Talk to someone about it, and get the classes you need. It may also be possible that they are just starting out slow so that if some of the classmates are there after not attending school for several years can remember and catch up, then the class may pick up speed later in the year, but this being already November, I doubt it. I am writing a review for school, and I am intentionally not giving away important plot points in the story. When you read a review about a book, or a movie, do you WANT know a little bit about the content, or do you prefer the review is vague so it doesn't ruin the story for you?

I get SUPER homesick and im going to France with school on a trip. Also i have read reviews on websites saying that the hotel gives out of date food and someone got foodpoisioning. People have also said that the rooms are a mess and there is gum on the beds, mould and blood on the walls :S Can someone help me cure my homesickness?

Just remember that there are soldiers and sailors who are stationed far from home to protect you and your country who are REALLY homesick and many haven't been home for a year. I am sure that your school trip will be for a much shorter time. Also, be grateful that you are going with classmates and at least a teacher or two. It is even worse for students who have to move overseas to a foreign country where few ppl speak English and have no adult mentors there. Many ppl live their whole lives and never make it to France and you get to go while you are a kid. Keep busy and think about gifts you can get for your family from France. It can be "simple" items-- a package of French cookies, a pair of socks, a key chain, etc. If you are worried about the hotel and the hotel restaurant, print out what you found on the internet and show it to the teacher/adult going with you on the trip. I am sure that your teacher doesn't want to get food poisoning either. Hopefully, you will be eating only breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Eating only the bread and drinking tea will MOST LIKELY be safe. Make sure you have health insurance. If you are in the UK, I believe the NHS will cover you in an EU country such as France. Have a great time!

Which online school is better AIU or Bryant and Stratton?
I'm a single mom and want to earn my business associates online . I need something that's going to take a reasonable amount of time and won't cost me a fortune. The reviews on both schools are so mixed it's hard to decide. AIU is faster and cheaper but something about it makes me nervous I'm afraid to get scammed. I'm open to other options as well. I want to start sometime soon I just need more feedback before I make my choice.

Depends on when you want to start grad school. If is soon and you are lacking some confidence in your knowledge then you might want to postpone it a semester and do some serious brushing up. If it is just a few things you are unsure of then set aside a couple of hours a day to catch up. You probably remember more than you think though. DRAGON 2008 "I BELIEVE IN U.S."

How do I send my son to a different school than he is slotted for?
The school my son will be going to next year is rated only a 3 out of 10 by the state, has horrible parent and state reviews, atrocious TAKS test scores and the teacher to student ratio leaves much to be desired. I found a school in town that scored an 8 of 10 by the state, has great parent reviews, wonderful TAKS test scores and has a much better teacher to student ratio. How can I start him in the better school when it is not in my district.

You need to check with the school district of each school. In our area, schools are full and they do not allow anyone to go to any other school than what they are zoned for. If you do get permission you would have to provide your own transportation for your child.

Film school application essay: What type of movie should be reviewed

Film school application essay: What type of movie should be reviewed?
The essay is to write a critical movie review of a film. My question is what type should I review? Should it be a well-known film that has won awards, or a good film that hasn't won any awards? I'm not sure exactly what the admissions office at the film school is looking for. Any ideas? Thanks!
Theater & Acting - 2 Answers - 2007-05-09 21:22:42

The question is valid and a darned good reason for asking it.,but your consulting the wrong source. The best way to find out what the admissions office is looking for is to ask someone in the admissions office. Simply explain that the assignment is open to interpretation, and you don't want to MISinterpret what they want, and then ask if they can offer some guidance.

Answer 2
It should be whatever film you are passionate about. They don't want to read yet another essay on a film that every other student has written an essay on for the same boring reasons. What film made you want to make movies? Was it terrible and you thought I have to get out there and make movies that people will want to see? Was it awesome and you thought "I just have to be a part of this" I think it should be a film that means something to you, no a film that you think they want you to review. Unless that's what the assignment is.. just a boring Siskel & Ebert review. Whatever film you review, do your research. If you pan it, make sure the filmmaker come from their school! LOL!

Hey, Yes I went to AIU for awhile for their Programming major. (before I realized I hated Computer Science) It's not a bad school.....short class sessions.....usually five weeks. Colleges like this are Kaplan and University of Phoenix.....but it's still a school and you still get an accredited degree which is what matters in the end. Classes all run together without a break, but you do finish your degree faster.

NO! Oh my god please don't go to this school. I went here directly from high school because they had a program where you get a 4 yr degree in 2.5 yrs. So I got scholarships, loans and 2 grants. They received the money that I was told by there office would cover tuition. After the third quarter there they started asking me for cash monthly. I didnt understand why when they received over 17,000 in money from my grants and scholarships! They totally mishandled my funds and even though it was there fault, they blocked me from buying books. So after the 3rd quarter I dropped out. I tried to make appointments to speak with someone in the admin office but no one ever contacted me. That was 5 yrs ago. Now i'm trying to enroll into San Francisco State and I need my transcript from AIU but they are refusing to give it to me and are claiming that I owe them over 7,000 dollars. This school is making my life hell. Thay're unorganized, poor services and a complete rip off. Plus, if you try to transfer to a real college, most of your credits won't even apply. I suggest you apply somewhere else. Please dont get yourself caught up in that.

PLEASE do not go there... I was there in ' 03 and left after the first quarter after paying over 13, 000 dollars! Somehow the school mishandled the money given to them and I ended up not able to pay for my second quarter courses. Now I'm stuck paying back loans that I should not have to pay back!

Should parents be able to review teachers at the end of the school year

Should parents be able to review teachers at the end of the school year?
I am frustrated with dead beat teachers that you hear about year after year from other parents but the principal does nothing about. I think that at the end of the year parents should be able to give our childrens teachers performance reviews. Do you think that this would be a good idea and helpful to the principal to see what kind of job the teacher is really doing? I forgot to mention, my children have also had some wonderful teachers that I would like to commend during the review process.
Grade-Schooler - 12 Answers - 2007-05-01 15:13:56

Best Answer
Absolutely! Why stop there? Students should be able to evaluate their teachers as well! I have said this for many years, that (especially in the public school system) teachers should have more pressure to preform better. What happens when a dead-beat teacher comes along? The students complain, in turn the parents complain who go to the school board, who go to the principal, who goes to the superintendent....It's ridiculous! At the middle and end of the year, students and parents should fill out evaluations of staff and they should be taken into consideration when renewing teacher contracts. After all, it's their education, and their money paying the teacher salary- they should have more voice and should be thought of first in such matter! :) *whew* I feel better.

All Answers
Answer 1
I believe that is a good idea, but in my part of the world the school board(elected) oversees any comments about teacher's performance.
2007-05-01 15:20:17

Answer 2
I completely agree. I am a teacher. I work part time with the ESL students and part time with the VAP students and I love to hear what parents think of my performance. I also work with those deadbeat teachers you are talking about and I completely agree something needs to be done! Bring it up with your school board and see what happens and then if need be get as many parents as possible to sign a petition and get it going! I would love to see that in every school and keep lazy teachers on their toes.
2007-05-01 15:22:15

Answer 3
Maybe so, but in that case teachers should be able to review all the dead beat parents that expect schools to parent their children. And anyway, that's what parent teacher conferences are for. In my experience teaching, so many parents complain to the teacher that they should be doing more about their children getting their homework done, etc. It's like they think that because they send their kid to school (especially when it's an independent school!), they shouldn't have to be bothered with their child's progress. The teacher can have hundreds of students, and the parent usually only has a couple of kids. While there are definitely bad teachers out there (I've had them!), I think parents need to take more responsibility for their children's education. When I was a child, my parents taught me loads of things at home before I learned them in school, like how to read, long division, history, etc. In the long run, research has shown that a child's performance in school is more closely related to his background and parental support then to the school and the teacher.
2007-05-01 15:24:22

Answer 4
That is a fabulous idea. I know there are some things my daughters teacher could improve on but I also know there are some things I would love to tell her that I was happy about. That would be nice to give some feedback.
2007-05-01 15:26:38

Answer 5
Definitely! The student should have a chance to review the teacher without the teacher or parents present, the parents should have a chance to review the teacher, and the teacher should have a chance to review the parents (ex. did they show up for conferences? did they make sure their child's homework was completed each night?) Having a clear view of the "big picture" would definitely benefit the student's career and would help the school administrators, teachers and parents approach each child's education in the most effective way possible.
2007-05-01 15:28:48

Answer 7
sure would be a nice idea. but on the other hand. teachers should be able to evaluate parents. i am a parent and im active in school with my sons.but, a lot of parents think they dont need to be involved or parent trheir kids. at least teachers went to colllege. alot of peoplke have kids thinking that gives them clout to tell others how to be.
2007-05-01 15:38:37

Answer 8
I think it's a good idea but remember that it's subjective. If your kid has a personality conflict with a teacher (or you do) you're going to give them a bad rating, even if that teacher was able to reach and effectively educate other kids. I had a teacher that I couldn't stand. My brother loved her. So my mom started out hating her, ended up loving her. But yes, it's a good idea to say thank you to good ones. I think that it's more important to be proactive as parents. I think we need to make sure tha twe make it to parent teacher interviews, stay on top of our kids doing their homework, seeing their grades and like that. If the grades are low, we as parents need to ask the teacher "how can I help you educate my child? What do you think my child needs?" More often than not the teacher will fall over him/herself to help a student whose parents really care.

I was thrilled when I started getting these particular paper's. From what I know it all came about at my children's school due to things like parents' not being available when the teacher's are (vice versa) & also because not all parent's were comfortable speaking about some things & would rather write it out. This idea for this evaluation paper twice a year started simply from a parent, such as yourself, expressing interest.

I really dont think parents should evaluate, because parents ususally do not have the appropriate knowledge on the different areas, such as the discipline domains, academic domains and other educational areas. You need to look at data and other things... Sorry but if you are not happy with the teachers at your school, and you feel that they are not good, please look at the academic level of the school and you will find data that will truly tell you if the teachers at your school are working right or are not...

Answer 12
I totally agree with you the parents should be able to give teachers reviews at the end of the school. My son is in the 5th grade and I have to say over his whole elementary school years he has had great teachers who are dedicated and caring. His school did real well on the state test this past fall.

is Depaul University (Chicago,IL) a good school, fun for transfer students living on campus

is Depaul University (Chicago,IL) a good school, fun for transfer students living on campus?
I'm willing to travel anywhere to continue a Bachelors in Information Security/Assurance which they offer...I've heard good reviews about the schooling there, nightlife in chicago for 21+ student's but heard it's hard to meet people and make friends? isn't this true at any transfer school....I figured It would be easy to make new friends if you have roomates who also live on campus and are fairly new themselves?

School is what you make of it. If you're an introvert, you'll find it harder to meet people and make friends at any school. If you're an extrovert, chances are you'll fit in faster. Regardless, the easiest way to meet people is to join some clubs. In that regard, DePaul is nice because it's situated in a large metropolitan city where there's always something going on. Academically speaking, I can't comment since I don't know how good that program is at DePaul.

Will reviewing my class notes every night help me do a lot better in school

Will reviewing my class notes every night help me do a lot better in school?
When I used to prepare for a test, I would wait until a week or so before (depending on how big the test was) to begin reviewing. But now that I am entering high school, do you think it would be a better idea to review them every night if I have time after completing my homework? Thanks.

Answer 11
Yes, do 'review all your notes' every night. There's also somethng you can to to 'improve your grade' ... when you get home, before you start your 'homework' read through your notes and 'write them again' is 'whole sentences' so they 'make more sense' to you ... which will make your 'reiview' go more easily, and make your 'memory' of the 'stuff you learned' more 'complete' for that day.

Answer 13
Getting straight A’s won’t guarantee success, but it sure doesn’t hurt. A high GPA will help you make more money, pursue further education, or change career paths. If you’re going to spend many thousands of dollars on a college education, you might as well make the most of it. Right? Being smart will help you get good grades, but it isn’t required. Neither is studying nonstop. The key to academic success is being disciplined and efficient in your study habits. These 7 strategies will help you raise your GPA while minimizing stress and overall study time. 1. Go to class - I know this one is mind-numbingly obvious but it’s important. Many professors lecture directly from PowerPoint and post the slides to the internet. This makes it tempting to skip class, download the lecture notes, and learn the material on your own. Although you can probably get away with this in easy courses, you’ll face problems in challenging ones. By skipping class, you miss out on a few important things: Detailed verbal explanations that are key to understanding the material The chance to ask questions and listen to the Q&A of other students Special announcements Opportunities for extra credit It’s also important to consider how skipping class affects your reputation. In most classes, grades are somewhat subjective. This means that the grader’s perception of you can make or break your grade. If you frequently miss class, you’ll be perceived as someone who lacks respect for the professor and the subject matter. Why should they give you the benefit of the doubt or round that B+ up to an A-? 2. Sit in the front row - Not only will sitting in the front row build self confidence, it will automatically engage you in the lecture. You’ll appear to be an eager student and highly visible to the teacher. This will help your academic reputation and make it more likely you’ll develop a relationship with the professor. You’ll have a much easier time maintaining focus and will feel more like a participant than a passive observer. 3. Take notes by hand - Another unfortunate side effect of the PowerPoint revolution is that it discourages students from taking notes. Taking notes by hand will improve your grades because a) it forces you to pay attention, and b) the physical act of writing aids memorization. If you take notes, you’ll find it much easier to stay engaged. Your notes also provide a point of reference that will help you build a mental link between a written concept and the professor’s verbal explanation. This is key for efficient studying. 4. Do a weekly review - A common problem students encounter is trying to learn an enormous amount of material right before the midterm or final exam. This is practically impossible. You’ll find it much easier if you take a gradual approach to studying. At least once a week, review your notes starting from the beginning of the course. This only needs to take 15 or 20 minutes, just enough time to build familiarity with the material. By doing a weekly review you’ll gradually memorize everything and will better understand how one concept builds on the next. Putting in small amounts of effort on a consistent basis will drastically reduce the amount of studying you need to do right before the test. 5. Go to office hours - Professors and TA’s usually make themselves available at regular times during the week for students to ask questions about assignments. Do yourself a favor by taking advantage of this opportunity. First, attending office hours will motivate you to get ahead on your work and prepare questions to ask. This will give you a huge edge in understanding problems that aren’t clearly explained in the lectures. Second, it will build your reputation as a high-effort student who deserves high grades. 6. Find smart people to work with - In courses that involve group work, this is essential. No one wants to get stuck with a bunch slackers, have to do all the work themselves, and end up with a poor grade to show for it. The quality of the your learning experience is directly related to the attitudes of the people you work with. Working with smart people will facilitate discussion. The best way to understand an idea is talking about it with other intelligent people. Who you work with also affects your academic reputation. If you associate with students that aren’t interested in learning, teachers and graders will assume you feel the same way. It’s also a great way to connect with people who have similar interests and ambitions. 7. Avoid all-nighters - Generally, having to pull an all-nighter means that you slacked off all semester and need to fit 3 months of learning into one day. If you use a gradual study strategy this will never be necessary. All-nighters don’t work! Yes, it might be possible to get a good grade if the course is easy, but it’s much more likely that your grade will be significantly lower. All-nighters harm performance because they make you tired and stressed. You’ll also forget most of what you learn right after the test, decreasing the practical value of your education.
2007-08-30 12:23:00

Answer 14
Yes, absolutely - as long as you took good notes! Then you'll never have to cram for a test, and the information will stay in your head, whereas if you cram, you'll forget everything within days after the test and will have learned nothing you can use in the future.

your right about that review your stuff on a regular basis is much more effective than the days before, to make it effective right after you get home from school review your classes that you did that day giving each class 10-15 minutes of review time once you have reviewed all your classes take like a 15-20 minute break and do your homework afterwards during the review time remember what happened in class, imagine it as accurate as possible what the teacher said what questions were asked, what the teacher spoke about the most if you do it regularly you wont need to cram it all in one week

Answer 19
My university biology professor gave me the best study technique I ever learned in my whole scholastic career: When taking notes for a class, fold the paper vertically and take notes on the left side of the page only. No need to write full sentences. That evening, unfold the page and rewrite the notes into complete sentences. Just before a test, review your rewritten notes. You have now engaged all three learning mechanisms (hearing, from the initial class - kinesthetic, from writing and rewriting your notes - and reading, from rewriting and reviewing your notes). It really works.
2007-08-30 12:24:23

Answer 20
It really depends on how YOU do best and if you know when tests may be coming up. I should think your class notes will be more copious than they were in junior high so, it doesn't hurt to look over notes on a subject you may be having difficulty with and then go over them again closer to test time. It sounds as though you're a great student so keep up the good study habits and good luck this year!

Answer 23
If you take reasonably good notes then yes -reviewing your notes every night will be a big help. When I was in college I got in the habit of 20 minutes of daily review per subject, on top of doing my homework and regular assignments. My grades went up and it wasn't that much extra effort. I have two sons, one in middle school and the other in high school. They have both take the time for a daily review and they have a 3.7 and a 3.9 GPA respectively. They're smart but honestly they are not geniuses. Your time is a valuable asset, make the most of it.
2007-08-30 12:30:57

Answer 24
I'm a tutor for both middle and high school students. The biggest problem I see is that students sometimes don't understand some topics during class. I think it's most important to pay special attention while the class is actually going on, and make sure to give yourself written reminders about sections that confused you so you can ask the teacher or classmates about it later. I have students that take lots of notes and don't do well on tests because their notes included topics that they didn't quite get in the first place. By making sure your notes are comprehensive and understandable the very first time, you won't have to spend as much time reviewing them.

I'm a senior researching colleges; what's the best resource on line to find out what a school is really like?
I'm trying to narrow down my college choices, and of course there's always the school's website and Wikipedia, but I wanted to know if there's something else that could help me make my decision - for example, a site where students give reviews and ratings of their schools.

Some good starting resources are the Princeton Review and US News & World Report. They have nationally recognized ranking systems and a lot of school-specific information as well. If you want more student feedback, check out ratemyprofessors.com. That can give you a good sense of how much students like their classes at any given school. Finally, the best way to really hear from students is to go to a school's website, research some student organizations you might be interested in, and contact the students directly. Chances are they'll be thrilled that you're asking them and will happily share their thoughts on their school.

www.review.com This is the website for Princeton Review. It has a ranking of colleges with categories such as Happiest Students, Least Happy Students Best Libraries, Most Beautiful Dorms, Dorms Like Dungeons, Best Professors, Most Class Discussions, Most Diverse, Least Diverse, Greek Life, Party Schools, Students Study the Most, Students Study the Least, Toughest to Get Into, etc. That should help a bit with your search. Also the Princeton Review's Best 361 colleges has a lot of reviews, ratings and lots of comments from students at many different schools. Good luck!

Which Culinary School in San Francisco is considered the most reputable?
I have been considering applying to the Culinary Arts Associates Degree program at the California Culinary Academy but I've recently heard some negative things about the school and have read several unsettling reviews.

The problem with culinary schools is that you will amass a debt of $55K to 65K for a line cook position that pays, if you are lucky, $12/hr. Look at the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies program at City College of San Francisco. I guarantee it will be much cheaper and leave you with much less debt than the for-profit schools you mentioned, and the education ought to be equal or better than the for-profits schools.

How do I make reviewing things fun for kids before school starts

How do I make reviewing things fun for kids before school starts?
Ok well I babysit and one of the things that I have been asked to do is review reading, sight words, and a little math with a 6 year old (going to be 7 in the beginning of Aug) who is going into 1st grade after repeating Kindergarden. He is already slower than most kids his age. One day he will be good and then the other he will refuse to do it, but he knows that he has to do it. I hate to make him do it, but he has to because he is already going to be struggle when he goes back to school and what I do to help him review will help him get ready. Whenever he refuses, he also says that he wants to fail 1st grade. I don't know what I should do or what I should tell his mom. Any suggestions?

Try to make a game or flash cards which will spark his interest to learn while having fun. I've found a reward system best with little kids. Such as star stickers or possibly some kind of sweet if the performance and behavoir is good. The more you force him to do somthing the less he will pay attention and lose interest with what you have to teach. If reading is involved, ask a list of topic he enjoys whether it be the wild west or outer space and fidn books/ ahort articals at his level. That will keep him interested in learning about the topic and watn to read. Flash cards and math games can be fun as well. Also applying what little math there is to real life situations or with props will help visulize the equation. It sounds liek all the kid needs is a little motivation and he will become successful! Hope i helped =D

How long is normal to be under review for law school

How long is normal to be under review for law school?
I have been tracking my application status on Duke's website and it says my file has been under review for a whole month.
Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers - 2010-04-08 09:44:44

It can take a few months. "Easy decisions" will often be admitted OR rejected within 3-4 weeks, but most applications are "close cases," which will often be held for a few months so that the admissions committee can make a careful decision, in comparison with the rest of the applicant pool, and based on how many other students who were admitted decide to accept/decline admission early on in the admissions season.

Answer 1
Normal, especially since you applied later in the cycle. Earlier in the cycle, being under review for 1-2 months would be a little long. Later on in the cycle, as long as 3-4 months can be normal. I hope you hear back soon and that it's good news!

how do you like my story ? its only 1.5 pages on word, and i need some reviews. its for school.?
i have to write a mini story on anything, but it HAS to incude a spring (pond, mini lake, etc). it doesnt have to do anything (the spring). please read. Im in grade 7; a higher level. so, i need to know what you think of this. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ IT. The Climb By Sophia Being here in the woods, without cell phone reception, a comfy bed, and a good magazine, isn’t my idea of a fun dare. After almost a full day of trying to live on tic tacs, I’m still nowhere near having an idea where I am or where I’m going. I just hope I make it home before I die of thirst. It’s all Jill’s fault. She was the one who made me do that stupid dare. She was the one who threatened to tell everyone I was too chicken to run through the woods at night. Back then, her dare seemed very childish and pointless. But, of course, Jill always has to have her way. I forgot to mention- Jill is my very annoying, but best friend. She is always up for a good game of truth or dare. Lately, her dares have become very dull. But last night, at my first-day-of-summer party, her dares weren’t even worth listening to- except when it came to me. I guess she was saving this one up for the next time I had a party. She dared me to run through the part of the woods that was on my property and back. Everyone knew those woods were haunted. I, of course, knew that my security guard, Fred, had made that story up to keep people from wandering there and getting lost. It seemed like such a stupid dare considering what I know. But Jill thought that I was too scared, and threatened to tell everyone at school. Just to prove I wasn’t afraid, I told her I’d stay there for an hour knowing I can just call Fred if I needed his help. She was surprised at this, but agreed. But when I tried to find my way back, I couldn’t. I listened for music and noise. I watched for lights or fireworks my friends might have set off. I even tried to smell the bonfire- but nothing. I was sure that I was too far for Fred to hear and knew that I was way off my property. I began to get drowsy; but didn’t let myself stop wandering or else I’d be lost forever. At some point, I couldn’t take it anymore, and collapsed. I had no idea where I was headed, and now, a day later, I still don’t. I’m grateful for the fact that I never go anywhere without my purse. I always have a spare snack in there, but this time, I only had a box of tic tacs. At least that’s something to eat. But I have no water. I wondered how long a person can go without water. I gave them three days, tops. So that meant I only had two more days to live! I felt myself getting weaker every minute, and began to miss home even more than I thought was possible. In fact, I stopped missing my TV hours ago, and now missed my fridge; full of wonderful foods and WATER. Somewhere around dusk, I came to a small mountain. I recalled the time I was sitting in my room, staring out the window, and noticed a mountain somewhere in the forest. I guessed that this was the same mountain, because in a place as flat as Alberta, any hill you saw was worth remembering. And if I made it to the top, I would definitely have a better view of where I’m headed. I started to climb uphill, but my heels made the job very tough. After about half an hour, it was getting dark, and I was practically dying of thirst. I made a mental note that if I ever got back home alive, that from now on, I would bring a water bottle with me everywhere and never wear high heels again. When I paused and looked around, it seemed as if I hadn’t just climbed up a mountain for half an hour. Everything looked the same. I promised myself I wouldn’t stop climbing until I reached the top, no matter how thirsty or tired I got. Luckily, during this time of year, the sun didn’t set until late. I continued to miss home drastically, and began to feel grateful for everything I have- even Jill, the one who got me into this entire mess. Soon enough, I noticed that it was practically pitch black outside, but it finally began to look like I was heading somewhere. I ran for a few minutes, which made me even more dehydrated than ever. I looked right ahead, and I only thought of what a relief it would be to make it somewhere, and be a little more in control of the situation. Perhaps I could locate water from atop of the hill. The closer and closer I got, the more desperate I felt. I didn’t even notice that the queasiness in my stomach had moved to my head, until the dehydration overcame me. I was about to faint and fall, but even though my eyes swam, I was positive that I saw something sparkling ahead of me from the moonlight. It looked like water! Just a few…more…steps… When you’re in such a desperate situation as me; you focus on everything you have just to try to make it out of it. I’m grateful that before I collapsed of dehydration, I had enough will power to make it to the small spring that lay just ahead of me, and right below the top of the mount and right below the top of the mountain. Never had anything in the world tasted to amazing to me before. I’ve tried many dishes, but this way pure joy. After I quenched my thirst with that refreshing water, I curled up into a ball, and fell asleep. A week later, my story was published in the local newspaper. The headline was “Life’s a climb, but the view is great”. Even though the headline almost had nothing to do with my adventure, I felt like it still appealed to me. The ‘view’, in my case, was the water near the top of the hill. After getting enough strength to continue, I managed to locate my house from atop of the mountain. About halfway there, I had the help of a few police officers, as well as Fred. Never will I forget how grateful I am for everything I have, and that small spring at the top of the mountain.

Can the school still receive my Fafsa

Can the school still receive my Fafsa?
I was thinking about going to an online school, however after reading many reviews about the school I have changed my mind. I went through the application process with the school, and I saw my funding plan, like how much the financial aid would cover, but I did not complete the application can the school still get my money?
Financial Aid - 2 Answers - 2009-05-08 09:26:52

Best Answer
No. When you fill out a fafsa form the information will be sent to the colleges that you indicated on the application. The financial aid office at the college then prepares an award letter for you indicating how much money, in the form of loans and work study, you are eligible for. You then sign the award letter and indicate how much of the money you would like. They money is then applied to your tuition bill. Even if you have done all of this, the money will not be applied/borrowed if you are not registered for any courses or do not have an outstanding balance with the school for that given semester.

Probably not, since you will not be enrolled for any classes.

I live in the northwest and have spent decades in the computer science and university environment, and I've never heard of this place. Why not go to the U of Washington? Any "townie" can take courses without formal admission so long as he isn't aiming for a degree. And I'm sure they offer courses that in effect prepare students for the various industy certificates. It will be a lot less expensive and everybody has heard of UW. Just my opinion and experience here.

Graduated there back in 2000. I thought it was horrible. Very expensive and didn't provide good Job Placement - DESPITE WHAT THEY CLAIM. I would not trust them. I recommend getting a real degree at an accredited institution.

I need a review has anyone used Penn Foster School?
I'm home schooled and going to high school next year and I'm trying to decide what school to use. I have friends that use American School but I've been hearing some bad reviews about them like they have boring books and lose tests. I'm thinking about using Penn Foster but can't find to many reviews about them. Please help!

I'm in Penn Foster at this very moment.Getting my American History Lessons.Penn Foster is a very good home school.Self-Paced,Easy Exams and great career diplomas.Hoping to finish this year...If I put in more time. The staff isn't rude.I always talk to them and they answer your questions quite fine. They have different payment plans. So it can work for your budget =].

I don't have personal experience w/Penn Foster, but I've heard from students that they are an okay school. But the students also say that Penn Foster cares more about the money than the education and that people in the office are rude sometimes and don't answer emails. I think you are better off with Keystone. Its more expensive, but the staff is friendly and they're accredited at most schools. They're also well known in the home schooling community. But a full credit class is 279 dollars :S

Well, I'm not a Seventh Day Adventist, so I never looked into it too closely. But I think that the church would keep the standards fairly high. Most private church schools that have been around for awhile offer a good education. Those that don't usually go out of business after a few years.

Does graduating from law school make you a lawyer and can you offer legal advice to someone in another state

Does graduating from law school make you a lawyer and can you offer legal advice to someone in another state?
I asked a family member who recently graduated from law school to review and negotiate a contract for me. She did so. She has not taken the bar exam in her state nor in my state, I signed this contract thinking she was already an attorney simply because she graduated from law school, but now I find out she's not fully an attorney yet. The law regarding this type of contract states that a attorney is to review it on my behalf, and now the other parties to this contract are refusing to invalidate the contract. Is she allowed to give me legal advice and help negotiate a contract for me although she may not fully be a lawyer and is that contract valid, now that it has been signed, etc. Or is it no longer enforceable.
Law & Ethics - 12 Answers - 2007-05-24 08:14:15

Best Answer
Pretty strange. Why did you sign the contract if you wish to have it invalidated? Anyway, you did receive legal advice from an accredited attorney. She MAY NOT practice law in the state where she resides until she passes the bar for that state, but she is qualified to render an opinion on a contract. You signed a legal contract and cannot weasel out of it as easily as you might wish. The contract is valid. That said, any contract can be invalidated. All you need do is fail to uphold your obligations in the contract, and it will invalidate it. You will however be held accountable for damages to the other party.

All Answers
Answer 1
Just studying law makes you a lawyer, but that doesn't mean that you are qualified or competent to give advice. It is always best to advise someone to seek professional advice, and not to advise them yourself. They will thank you in the end
2007-05-24 08:18:21

Answer 2
Contract says an atty has to review. She is not an atty. It's their call, but no, not if a valid atty review is required for enforcement.
2007-05-24 08:18:26

Answer 3
She is not a lawyer and she cannot give legal advice. Even if she passed the bar in her own state she should not give legal advice to you if you live in another state since she is not licensed in your state. As to whether or not the contract is valid, that depends on the contract, type of contract, etc. so I recommend you speak to a real laywer in your state that can review the contract.
2007-05-24 08:19:05

Answer 4
The answers are no, and no. Graduating law school is ONE requirement for being a lawyer. But not the only one. They also have to pass the state's bar exam and fulfill other requirements before being formally admitted to practicce law. A license to practice law in one state does not enable you to practice in another.
2007-05-24 08:19:21

Answer 6
no. without passing bar, she is nothing.
2007-05-24 08:21:32

Answer 7
She is not a lawyer until she passes the bar exam and gets her license to practice law. She is not allowed to give you legal advice or practice as a lawyer until those requirements are met. What is at issue is the contract you entered into that allowed you to have "attorney review." You elected to fulfill the "attorney review" requirement by using a law student - depending on the type of contract you entered into, this was a bad move on your part. Your judgment error does not constitute a reason for the other parties to invalidate the contract. Good luck -
2007-05-24 08:31:58

Answer 8
O my God...I cannot believe your relative did that. Your family member broke the law....as lawyers we are not allowed to practice law until we pass the bar and are licensed in the appropriate state. If I have a license in North Carolina I cannot go to South Dakota to deal with legal issues except for a few exceptions...but a rencent graduate is never allowed to practice until they pass the bar. You family member committed what is called the unatuhorized practice of law and if found by the states bar association they will not be allowed to take the bar exam...effectively ending their career, for a while. Negotiating contracts would fall under practicing law so she clearly was wrong. Now for your question if the other side knew she was not a licensed attorney and acted you could have the contract voided because of fraud...but if they asked are you an attorney and she said yes...they are under no obligation to look up her bar number and confirm...so in this case there is no action allowing an invalidation. I am assuming you entered into this contract thinking she was a qualified attorney and ended up with a bad deal....well your only hope unless the other side acted fradulently is to bring an action against your relative in a malpracitce suit before the bar...claiming that she acted wrongfully and you were not aware she could not do it.... As for unlicensed attorneys all they can do is legal info...not legal advice....She could tell you the law: ""A contract requires an offer and acceptance." She cannot give you legal advice..."you should sue and argue these points because what he did was wrong" She pretty much can't do anything until she takes the bar.

Answer 9
a) there is no such thing as 'practicing law w/o a license'. Why? Becuz the supr crt says practicing law is a 'common law Right' and therefore does not need a license. If u need further proof, write ur state capital and ask which dept gives out a 'law license'. They don't. The 'state bar' is more or less a club w/ dues. They can't give themselves a license the same as Doctor's (AMA) can't give themselves a license - only the state can issue a 'license' . b) The law that's above the constitution is the law of contracts. It's been around for thousands of years. In America (all states of the union) u have the fundamental Right to contract. And, 'no rule, code, or law' can interfer w/ ur fundamental Rights' (at least that's what the sup crt says. See Miranda v. AZ.) c) I've spoke on my own behalf in fed crt 3 x's & state crt 5 x's - it's no big deal. Most lawyers I saw in crt were clowns - and if their clients (paying customers) witnessed how they waste time and then charge for it - their customers would b pissed. d) fyi - if u hire an attorney - u r telling the crt u r a child, mentally ill - these are not my words but read the 'legal' definition for attorney. e) vry few lawyers know the law - they are taught procedure. f) lastly, u have the fundamental Right to the assist of councel. This should tell u that u can have the help of anyone u desire. g) Next time, use a para-legal. They generally are more helpful, more friendly, less expensive, and know more then most attorneys. hope this helps
2007-05-24 08:51:46

Answer 10
No, she cannot legally practice law in any State until she has passes that particular state's Bar Association Examination (most don't pass upon the first try). To give out legal advice and represent herself as an attorney before passing the Bar in that state could land her in a world of criminal liability and highly likely prohibit her from pursuing the Bar exam in any State. Additionally, once her deception is discovered, any act that she illegally accomplished could be invalided if the other parties involved wanted to dispute the validity of the contract.

This is my 3rd year in the OHVA high school and I love it. It was a big adjustment during the first year (almost entirely because it is a virtual school and EVERYTHING is online) but it is an excellent school. The teachers are very helpful and the guidance counselors go out of their way to make sure things run smoothly. I have two younger sisters (one in the OHVA middle school and the youngest in elementary) and they also love the program. All three levels cover so much more than "regular" public schools.

It's actually called a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, and you will need to find a program that's CAAHEP accredited (see link). By doing so, you are ensured that you can sit for your boards immediately after graduating, so you can become a Registered Sonographer. http://www.caahep.org/Find-An-Accredited-Program/ Sanford Brown is probably the school you're referring to, and honestly, you are better off finding an Associate's degree program offered at a technical college. This is because SB is a "trade school" where the programs are usually short &/or easy to get into (which makes them appealing), but they charge ridiculous amounts of money, and usually do not have good reputations in the ultrasound community (could make it more difficult for you to find a job). Some of these trade schools ARE accredited, but I would still recommend a local technical college. Good luck :)

In High School, they usually spend the first two weeks of class reviewing material, and then they start teaching you new material. However, it is a good idea if you start reviewing material during your summer break, so you can be ahead of your classmates. **

Not usually or Maybe a little. There is so much to learn that they won't have the time. It also depends on the school.

At this ebags.com page for the backpack, there are 24 reviews for the backpack. It really helps in understanding the actual size of the bag. I think ebags.com is having a sale on the North Face bags right now, if you want to order them online. I've never heard of Academy of Couture Art, but I did go to FIDM, and I would say save your money and go to a 4 year college. FIDM is so damn expensive and the teachers will say "it's not what you know, it's who you know", which made me so frustrated because if it's not what you know, then why are they charging a butt load to go there? That's just my opinion though.

To answer you're question, it is possible to learn technique from dreams. In fact, I learnt to swim from dreaming. However, as a student of psychology who has done much work on freudian explanations of the unconscious, and memory, I can assure you, that you can't really use lucidity to recall memory.

Which school should I go to for my MBA? University of Miami or the University of Hawaii?
Hawaii has a program that I like more and will allow me to work in Japan, which I greatly desire. However, Miami seems to be a "better" school in regards to the rankings, etc. It may also have better employment prospects. However, from what I've read on Princeton Review, the schools seem similar. Would it be better to go and do a program that fits me better or one that fits, but not as well, but will possibly offer better employment prospects. Also, Miami's program costs double that of Hawaii.

Most schools will have resources available to assist with the transition from school to career. However most do not find you the work. If they promise work it may be a scam. Ask each school specifically what is available to their grads. Also only consider accredited school. Topping the list of the best graduate urban planning programs is the School of Architecture and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts... The University of California, Berkeley, and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill -- both public institutions often recognized for their educational excellence in many fields -- are ranked second and third, respectively. Rounding out the top ten schools are: Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts), University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), University of California, Los Angeles (Los Angeles, California), Cornell University (Ithaca, New York), Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (New Brunswick, New Jersey), University of Southern California (Los Angeles, California), and University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (Champaign, Illinois).

Is it okay to do album music reviews for a schoool newspaper

Is it okay to do album music reviews for a schoool newspaper?
I usually write book reviews but we're having 3 issues come out that are very close to each other. One for the end of March, an April Fools edition, and a regular April issue. Which means I'm supposed to have 3 book reviews but I don't have enough time to read three books and do three book reviews. So the question is does any other school newspaper do music or album reviews? Those are much simplier and less time consuming *Omit the extra 'o' in school

I think a good one which I did when I was 15 was "Of Mice and Men" but it depends how advanced you're child is (sorry if its not your child). If not that then go with anything by Shakespeare

You didn't say what types of books you like to read - adventure? biography? classics? sci-fi? - so I listed some of each: Fantastic Mr. Fox, the BFG, or other great stories by Roald Dahl The Adventures of Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain The Jungle Book or Rikki-Tikki-Tavi by Rudyard Kipling The Time Machine or The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis

What is the best esthetics's school in Austin, Tx.?
I will be moving to Austin in a few months and I have a few in mind but I want to make sure I choose the right one for me. I've been looking at Avenue Five, Paul Mitchell the school, and Baldwin Beauty School. Any others or reviews on any of these would be appreciated. :)

Hi. Congrats on your move to Austin. I work with beauty schools and have heard of these. They are all great schools...This should be a big help to you. We offer two great resource sites for everything you need to know about beauty schools. I pulled the schools in your area, just in case you may also be considering any outside of Austin. http://www.beautyschool.com/search/texas http://www.beautyschoolsdirectory.com/find/index.php?search=Y&fromform=Y&thisSearchPage=Find+Page&search=Y&t=3&st=TX Also, the common Q&A section on Beauty School Directory, answers almost any question you have about your career in beauty school. http://www.beautyschoolsdirectory.com/faq/ Oh! One more thing – if you want to ask questions of other beauty students, cosmetology teachers and working beauty professionals across the country, you might want to check out the Beauty School Lounge at http://lounge.beautyschoolsdirectory.com… It’s a social networking site for people interested in cosmetology and esthetics, and it’s loaded with good stuff and is great for asking questions like these.

Does New School university have a bad reputation

Does New School university have a bad reputation?
I've heard mixed reviews about this school. For someone who is seriously considering attending a top university (Yale for example) for their graduate education (PhD), is New School a good choice for an undergrad or Masters degree? While I've heard many Professors say that it's not really considered a university with a good reputation, I've heard some say that it is.......

Well I personally consider it to be very respectable. It's a very liberal arts type school, known more for humanities/social sciences than math/science. Most of the people who think lowly of it are the type of people who believe that any liberal arts college is a joke and that only top colleges are worthy of their interest. I wouldn't pay much attention to them. It's considered a respectable college by most, and it's pretty well known nationally. It all depends on what program you're doing. A certain program may be better at New School than Yale, or vice versa. You can't just look at the college as a whole, as a college is really just a collection of small schools (journalism school, allied health school, school of education, etc.) and each one is different in every way.
