What is the best school for culinary arts in the USA?
I want to earn a bachelors degree in the culinary arts, and I'm looking for honest reviews and suggestions of schools. If you have attended a prestigious culinary school please tell me about your experience. I'm trying to gather as much information as possible about school before I make a decision.

Answer 1
For a bachelor's in culinary arts, Johnson and Wales is supposed to be a reputable program. I don't personally know anything about the school or program though. Please do forgo those private overpriced for-profit tech schools such as 'art institute' and such. For a certificate program or associate degree, please consider the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as long as the program is accredited within the industry. This consumer website has many posts about the 'art institute' and other private for-profit schools: http://www.ripoffreport.com and can search. This consumer site may have reviews about schools of interest: http://www.studentsreview.com and can search and then click 'comments' if there are any. For US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ General career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'chefs, cooks and food preparation workers' or such.

customer reviews for The Student Planner 2009-2010 School Year Planner Middle School Great Planner, August 14, 2009 I bought this planner for my son and I was impressed with the quality and the price. It isn't just a calendar in a cover. The planner has tips on test taking, assignment organization, science/math/writing, goal setting, and a great daily subject by subject note space. It especially like that it has three hole punches so he now has one three ring binder for all of his scheduling. Definitely worth the bucks.

Is the Art Institute of Atlanta a good school?
I'm looking to go to school to major in the culinary arts, preferably with a concentration in baking and pastry. However, I don't want to waste my time or money on a school that won't give me what I want. I've read reviews of the school and they all seem bad, but I haven't found anything on the culinary department. I'm asking for a good review of the school in relation to my intended major and if there are any other suggestions for another school that has a culinary program.

Resources for reviewing high school physics?
I would like to study in computer engineering in university. However, in high school, I struggled with physics quite a bit. I was wondering if anyone knows of GOOD resources that review or teaches you high school physics? Either books or online (free) resources. I'd like to catch up on my poor physics skills and actually "try", no matter how hard. Thanks.

Well, if you want to review and do some questions for high school physics, I would recommend 'Physics, The Easy Way' which is available for free at your local library, assuming you've got a library card. Another great book is 'Physics for the Utterly Confused' - I myself have used it and found it a great help. Good luck.

I am a very proud Marquette U. alumna. I enjoyed my time there. And, it is truly a great school. I knew several engineering majors, and they graduated with great jobs and connections. Academically, you will definitely be challenged and prepared for the "real world". As far as student life, there is something for everyone. There are plenty of groups, organizations, and activities in which students can participate. Also, the campus is right downtown. It's on many buslines. And, it's near a mall and the lake (there you will find the beach, festivals, etc...). I don't know much about Bradley. But, for an engineering major, Marquette U. is a great choice!

Before you commit to one of those pretend schools, look at this web site http://www.aiutruth.com & read this post. It is the most eloqent tirade that I have seen on the subject of pretend online schools [you can find the original post here: [http://answers.yahoo.com/quest............ The following was written by "PhD Seeking" (not me) As someone who's responsible for hiring people at my fortune 100 company, I can honestly say that any resume sporting an on-line degree goes into the "circular file", regardless of their other qualifications. I have my MBA from a traditional school, and shortly after I graduated and continually until this day, I have been solicited by the UoP to teach on-line business courses for them. While I have several years of work experience (which they didn't know), I was apparently qualified simply because they purchased a mailing list of graduates from my school and saw I had a degree. Not that PhD professors are better teachers, because some of mine really sucked as communicators, but asking people with limited work and educational experience to teach students shows a lack of concern about educational quality, and more about getting an instructor at a cheap price. If you don't believe me, check out the career section on the UoP site or other job boards and you'll see the low standards they set for educators. (see the ad below) Getting a real degree tells me the applicant can make a long term commitment that requires sacrifice. On-line classes are the ultimate sign of laziness. With all real colleges offering part-time or evening classes, going the on-line route suggests you're looking for the easy way out. Most employers within reputable companies, including myself, won't take a chance. Lastly, be prepared for the teasing, either publically, or more probably, behind your back, by your co-workers with real degrees

What's a good site to review high school math?
Yeah, I just felt like doing some math review before school starts up again. Also, it'd be cool if the site had the entire high school curriculum. Thanks!

There is no legitimate "degree" in Audio Production. There is only trade school leading to minimum wage jobs or Taco Bell.

Academy of Art University is a great school to go to for Architecture and offers an M.Arch degree that really goes a long way in the world of architecture. I earned my M.Arch there and learned a lot! Since all of their instructors are industry experts, I was able to get a lot of valuable information, while preparing for success in life after college. Once I graduated, I landed a great job at Anshen + Allen. Some of my friends who have graduated from there have also gone on to work for big-name companies. You can see a list of companies that hire Academy grads by visiting http://www.academyart.edu/architecture-school/index.html.

To me it isnt a real college. Tell your sister to enroll in a local community college. If she likes doing her classes online she could still, depending on if that class is taught online or in the class.

Does anyone have any reviews on Acupuncture schools - especially in Florida? I just wanted some input on their acupuncture schooling they have received or are currently in. Is your school meeting what you expected and if you have already graduated, did you feel confident in the career? I am considering a concurrent Bachelor’s in Professional Health Sciences and Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine at the East West College of Natural Medicine in Sarasota. Has anyone graduated from there or are currently enrolled? Any information would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Please be wary of online, for profit schools such as university of phoenix: http://www.uopsucks.com And please avoid any 'job offer' that asks for money upfront. Perhaps look into the county vo-tech school or community college (perhaps non-credit course). US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

I live in fullerton also. There is a good taekwondo place on bradford in placentia. The master there was a military instructor in korea and also my friend there is an instructor there. My friend is a red belt and he is straight from korea so you know he is good. They also teach jiujitsu, boxing, and hapkido on certain days.

Sure, you pick an affluent county bigger than the State I live in now. I lived in North County and San Diego county for a while (stationed there). I was looking through the listings. Not many web sites among the Kung Fu schools, so you are going to have to figure it out the old fashioned way, by visiting the schools. Any school worth it's logo will give you a free weeks trial. For many years I have been studying Wu style Tai Chi Chuan at a school practicing Fu Hok Tae He Morn. a Wu style/Hung Gar/other stuff mixture. I'm going to give you a couple of URL's for legit Kung Fu/Tai Chi schools in my area (3500 miles Northeast) as guide lines for what to look for. The head of YMAA is the most published Sifu of all time. The Sifu at Calvin Chin's place (Calvin) is just plain great. Having been stationed al over the place, I find him the best I have seen in Chinese Martial Arts. Good luck in your quest. Finding a good Sifu is like finding gold.

Does your child or someone else you know go to Goddard Private School?
My son will be almost three at the time I'd want him to go to daycare and Goddard school takes all kids from Newborn to School age kids. I wanted to hear some personal accounts you might have and what your experience is/was with this school. The reviews are nothing short of 5 stars. Its an amazing school and I wanted to hear your personal experience with it.

Checked it out in my area. It was ludicrous and to be quite honest, it was creepy. They are highly rated only because the parents who will pay the outlandish tuition are the kinds of parents who have their kid's whole life planned out for them, and function on the expectation that everything from birth is geared toward getting them to be beings whose only purpose is to be students (not necessarily individuals) who get perfect grades and do perfectly in tons of extracurricular activities, because they can get the kid into Yale Law or Harvard Med to fulfil their parents' dreams. If you want that, then Goddard schools are the schools for you. It's definitely not for me or for those of us who value our children as more than their state test and SAT scores. The Goddard school in my area... was just creepy. The kids were like little robots. Stepford like.

Answer 3
i've been on the tour of the school before and really its not much different from any other daycare...well besides the fact that it costs a fortune. all licensed day cares have curriculum they have to follow, and nutritional menus, toys, teachers, etc. with the goddard school you are just getting the name and the price tag. my daughter goes to a reasonably priced daycare and she loves it and has learned so much (spanish, colors, numbers, potty trained). if you don't mind paying that much money and can afford it then more power to you, but if its going to be a struggle then i would look elsewhere. what's most important is that your child feels comfortable with the school and the teacher. as far as i'm concerned kids will love any day care that has a loving/caring teacher, toys, bright colors, other kids, good food, and a good cirriculum.

Answer 4
I used to teach at a Goddard school and I do think it's a good school. But I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra money. They require teachers to do so much work with lesson plans and there are a lot of rules with decorating, cleaning, and other stuff. Which is fine, but at the center I worked at they rarely gave you any planning time (paid) to get it done. So many days we struggled to get some of the many things we were supposed to teach done. I know that at our center there was a high turnover rate with teachers because we weren't paid very well for having degrees and it was also hard to get your full 40 hours a week. But to answer your question, yes it is a good school, but I have taught preschool/prek other places and the students learned just as much, if not more because teachers didn't have to follow such strict guidelines, and it was almost half the price of most goddard schools.

I do not know anyone who goes there or has gone there. But I do know that the school is wonderful, and is highly regarded. If I had one locally I would be looking into sending my son there.

i've been on the tour of the school before and really its not much different from any other daycare...well besides the fact that it costs a fortune. all licensed day cares have curriculum they have to follow, and nutritional menus, toys, teachers, etc. with the goddard school you are just getting the name and the price tag. my daughter goes to a reasonably priced daycare and she loves it and has learned so much (spanish, colors, numbers, potty trained). if you don't mind paying that much money and can afford it then more power to you, but if its going to be a struggle then i would look elsewhere. what's most important is that your child feels comfortable with the school and the teacher. as far as i'm concerned kids will love any day care that has a loving/caring teacher, toys, bright colors, other kids, good food, and a good cirriculum.

Looking for books to do school newspaper reviews on.
Looking for books to do school newspaper reviews on...?
Okay, my friend asked this same question, but only one person answered and the suggestion wasn't even what she was looking for. So I'm gonna try to help her out here. Looking for recent and fairly popular books. The reason is that she's in Journalism and gets to do the book reviews for the school newspaper. But they have to be pretty recent and pretty popular. No Twilight. We both liked it, but we both have a bit of a pardoxical view on the overall series. People would be confused. So: Recent/popular books. Preferably for 14-18 age group. No Twilight. Other than that, pretty much anything is acceptable. Thanks! Oh, yeah. She's looking for the books people actually read on their own time, not the ones we're required to read for school. 'Cause none of my classmates actually read those.... Oh, and, in case it wasn't assumed from the age group, we're both high school seniors. Thanks again for any suggestions!

Here's a suggestion. Your local library should have lists of approved and required reading for your school district by both age and grade level. Your friend would be doing other students a service by reading and reviewing books from those lists.

Does what high school you attending matter when it comes to applying for college
Does what high school you attending matter when it comes to applying for college?
The reason I ask for such a question is because when I look up high school reviews, at some good schools I can often find their information on what colleges their students get into, while others don't even mention it at all. So, does it mean you have to be in a good famous high school in order to get into a good college or famous college? Will there be high chances for students in good high schools or it doesn't really matter? Thanks in advance.

It is not what school you attend, it is how you did in high school that matters to good or famous(?) colleges. If you earned excellent grades, participated in a variety of extracurricular activites, did well on SAT's, and have good recommendations from teachers, then you should be able to get into some good colleges. Money is also important! You need to be able to afford to go to a good college; or be able to qualify for loans, grants, scholarships. Good luck and I hope you get to go to the school of your dreams: )

Answer 1
What high school you went to is not as important as your rank in your graduating class. The better your grades are and the more extra curricular acitivties you were in the better. Some high schools like to brag and some don't about where their students go to for college.

Answer 2
No. The private schools want you to think it makes a difference but if you are an outstanding student it does not matter. Also, get in some community service and extra curricular activities. Colleges look for a well rounded student. I've seen children at a local public high school get into Harvard ahead of so-called "exclusive" private school students.

Answer 4
It doesn't make a bit of difference. What matters is what you did in high school and how well you did it. Obviously, your grades have to be good. You should have some extra-curricular activities and some community service as well.

Answer 5
It only makes a difference if you're going to a college in the same city you went to high school in. Really, the only thing is if you went to a college prep school, your GPA or rank will look a little better than if you got the same GPA or rank at a regular high school. Seriously, though, I wouldn't worry about it.
2007-06-11 09:14:27
The reason I ask for such a question is because when I look up high school reviews, at some good schools I can often find their information on what colleges their students get into, while others don't even mention it at all. So, does it mean you have to be in a good famous high school in order to get into a good college or famous college? Will there be high chances for students in good high schools or it doesn't really matter? Thanks in advance.

There's one in my hometown. It's basically viewed as a community college there. The community colleges are definitely below the state universities. It is good for a few select programs, but absolutely none of my friends really consider it a respectable school (my hometown has Kaplan, another community college, and a state university).

Have any middle school teachers ever used STAR Math from Renaissance Learning? Reviews?
I'm trying to find a good quick assessment that will allow me to identify a students grade level equivalent and track their progress frequently throughout the year (rather than once a year on the state wide standardized testing). I looked into STAR Math online but would love some practical reviews from teacher who have used it. Thanks.

I'm not middle school, but we use the Accelerated Math program in our school, 2-12. We use STAR testing to place them at the beginning of the year and then to progress occasionally throughout the year (we're only supposed to do it 3 times, but I do it at the end of every quarter). I think you need to use Accelerated Math and STAR Math together for it to be successful. It gives students a chance to work at their own pace apart from what the rest of the class is doing. That way they can have more intense work on a subject they're not doing well on or they can progress in a way that will keep them from getting bored and becoming a disruption. For instance, all of my children started at the beginning of the second grade library. I now have 3-4 students in the third grade library. One student is about 20 objectives away from completing the third grade library. Also, I noticed that my students went from 50% At Risk at the beginning of the year to 8% At Risk now.

Have you tried myspace.com? There's a school section where you can search for a school (Norfolk State University) and the school forum should pop-up. When looking at college reviews that say "average high school GPA of 3.51", does it include your senior year
When looking at college reviews that say "average high school GPA of 3.51", does it include your senior year?
I was wondering if it includes your senior year or just freshman to junior year? Why it might not, or what caused me to question it, is due to the fact that you apply at the end of your junior year.
Higher Education (University +) - 3 Answers - 2010-01-03 03:46:37
Best Answer
Yes it does, but not at the moment. If it's saying you need at least a 3.51 to get into the college then it will be added up all your hs grades up to the current semester or marking period. So you current average need to be above that right now for you to apply. If you get accepted, your grades still need to stay above a 3.5 at the end of the year or youwill lose scholarships, or even your place sometimes. Hope this helps.

Answer 2
As you will submit applications before the end of your Senior year, it will mainly be freshmen to junior, however senior year grades still will matter in subjects that are required for entry. Best to just make sure you stay on top of your work and get lazy in college! Remember though, there is rarely a required GPA as an average GPA would include GPA's above and below 3.51.

My school is having a new tutoring system, Your thoughts and reviews please?
Currently we have A horizontal tutoring system which is basically where we have 28 pupils in a form of the same year. However my school is currently introducing a new system called "Vertical tutoring" that is there there is going to be a mixture of different students from different years in 1 form. Eg. 4 people from year 7 , 5 people from year 8, 5 people from year 9, 4 people from year 10 and 4 people from year 11 Inside 1 form. Do you think this is a good idea? Your thoughts please :)

At my school we use the horizontal system, which works well because you can comunicate with your friends etc, however, another of the local schools uses the vertical system, which works really well because the younger students get to make friends with older students, which works well if they have a problem. I think both ways are good, it's just experimenting!

bad idea. the teacher would have to know the syllabus for all the grades involved in their class. stick with the horizontal system

How long for school review process for financial aid
How long for school review process for financial aid?
I gave all my tax copies and paperwork to my school a little over a month ago for the fall 2009-Summer 2010 semester. It says I have been approved for so much money but that all my paperwork is pending to still be reviewed. Is it normal for it to take this long?
Financial Aid - 1 Answers - 2009-08-08 14:11:13

Sad to say, this year, if many other schools are like mine, yes. Many schools do not have large numbers of people to handle their financial aid applications and it can be a very long process. Add to this the economic situation that has sent thousands more people back to school and many of them filing for aid compounding the numbers of applications to be reviewed. And it takes time, a lot of time, to review student files. Trust me, those of us struggling to get through the mass of applications are no happier that it is taking longer than you are, but we are working on them daily, often at unpaid overtime, to get the students the money they need to come through our doors. Your patience is not only appreciated deeply, but will be rewarded. Many schools will also extend your payment due date if your financial aid file is not awarded, but is complete and waiting. Ask.

How can my school newspaper recieve free music to review?
My school newspaper reviews albums but they are usually about 2 months after the album comes out. That's not good journalism. How can I have music companies send us albums to review?

Contact the PR and marketing departments of every record label you can find. Let them know how many copies of each issue you print and how many of those get picked up. Also remind them that your readership is their target audience. And when you give one of their releases a great review, be sure to mail a copy of that article to their PR department. Some of the contact information might be available online. There is one company that publishes a guide with all the info but I've forgotten the title.

Did you know that greatschools.net school reviews can be biased in favor of the school
Did you know that greatschools.net school reviews can be biased in favor of the school?
All reviews submitted to greatschools.net are sent to a 'parent review team'. If you have a negative opinion or experience, it potentially will not be posted. My son had a negative experience at Walgrove Elementary School in Los Angeles and I wanted to share it. My comment was a clear and concise statement of how poorly my son was treated at this school, but it was removed and now there are over 60 positive comments. Beware of all the positive reviews for Walgrove Elementary, because the deck is stacked in the school's favor.

Parent reviews are slanted one way or the other nearly 100% of the time. This is because little Johnny and Suzie can do no wrong and are perfect little angels. These blogs / sites and posts etc can monitor everything that is posted and the "moderator" can deem any thing inappropriate and delete it.

I never read the parent reviews. I have visited some of the schools that received the best reviews in the city I live in. My visits were before, during, and after the review periods. Good or bad, I did not find anything that matched the parent reviews. I only go to the sight to look at information such as test scores, demographics, and students per teacher. You can get far more information from that. Parent reviews will always be subjective. They can't see past the end of their kid.

I don't give much weight to a review from an anonymous parent I don't know. I just look at the test scores and number of students on greatschools, etc. I've read lots of negative reviews on greatschools, perhaps your review posed a legal issue? A website would be remiss to post something that may be defamation. I'm sure that some parents might encourage others with like opinions to post positive reviews. My son attends private school in LA and it took a lot of listening to find out the real story of each school. Parents who spend a lot of money are sometimes hesitant to say something negative about the school, and sometimes you have to dig to get the test scores, but my *detective* work paid off. A lot of the statements of which schools are the most friendly or the most rigorous is baloney. Hopefully other parents won't just take anonymous reviews as the absolute truth. Did you write to ask them why your comment was deleted? Good luck!

I live in the neighborhood so I am familiar with Walgrove Elementary and I don't agree with all the positive reviews about the school. It's a poor performing school and it is struggling. The school could stand a change in leadership. Beethoven Street Elementary is a much better school and it's just a few blocks from Walgrove. Have a look at Beethoven.

So Cal Pilots - any recommendations/reviews for a good flight school
So Cal Pilots - any recommendations/reviews for a good flight school?
Looking at taking an intro flight and possibly getting my pilot's license. I live near Santa Monica, Hawthorne and Torrance airports. Most flight school websites seem to say the same thing about courses, training hours, etc. I do not want any school that offers DVD training :) When I call and ask about safety, accidents, etc. they're not so friendly on the phone. Not looking for high pressure sales or gimmicks, just a good "intro" or "discovery" flight, and if I continue to lessons, a solid basic course in flight training and safety. p.s. just doing this for myself, not looking for a career in aviation, but you never know...

Insight Online High School - Reviews?
I'm trying to get my parents to agree to enrolling me in the school, and I'd like to hear from actual students what they think of the school and the instructors. Actually, I'm all for going, and my parents are the ones that want the reviews, so anyone that could help, thanks.

I attend Insight SC (this is the first year) and so far I'm really enjoying it. I love the set up for the classes and lessons. All the teachers are really helpful. If it helps for your parents, my parents really like it too. Are public high school is pretty crappy so this was an excellent alternative. If you have any questions about it or anything feel free to e-mail me.

Why do you want to go to school there? Cause it is online? There are many many many other universities that offer online degrees such as Nebraska, Oklahoma University, Penn State, Washington State, Azusa Pacific University, Hope International University (the last 2 are private schools) All of these are regionally accrediated schools, check them out.

By learning how to spell "Write" and "vague"
All Answers
Answer 1
Better start with learning spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax. Then, try to develop a little style. Finally, watch a movie and write about what you see.
2008-09-30 18:55:35
Answer 3
First; you need to learn the difference between "right" & "write" Second: "vaige" ; is spelled vague. You don't review movies from watching the trailers. You need to see the movie. Then, say what you thought. Make it personal, reviews are opinion not fact. Have fun with it; for example, go see a really bad movie so you can trash it.

Do not go to that school. My son went to this school, it's in Rockland county right? Well, anyway he went for one month and he hated it, there was no one there that he thought he could be friends with and the school is not in a high school based setting either. It's one hall way and like 6 classrooms that are very very small, not to mention that the computers suck. After my son has went to this school he has been having a hard time to fit in, in other schools with other kids. Make the decision that is right for your child and do not send him/her to this school! In the Australian Capitol Territory, do many reviews and appeals for school enrolments work?
I applied for narrabundah college but they put me in my second choose, dickson college. So i am going to do a review, and if that doesn't put me in, then i will do an appeal. But do many reviews and apeals work?

Some of them do, and some of them don't. The fact that you got put into Dickson means that you are significantly out of area, so this will hinder your chances quite a bit. My best tip to you would be to bluff. Narrabundah is the only school which offers things along the lines of environmental sciences and ecology, so you could always pretend to have a burning love of them. Also, their photography school is meant to be great as well (I never did it, but a few of my friends did) so you could appeal to their vanity and say that you want to do that as well Because they work in a trimester, you can easily do both Environmental sciences and photography for your first semester, then drop them for your second and still make up majors in whatever you swap them for (as they cannot UNenrol you if you make it though the appeal) I hope that this helps!

Some of them do, and some of them don't. The fact that you got put into Dickson means that you are significantly out of area, so this will hinder your chances quite a bit. Asking parent reviews on Abeka curriculum for grade school students
Asking parent reviews on Abeka curriculum for grade school students?
My son is a first grader currently attending a Private Christian School, who teaches with Abeka up to the sixth grade level. I am concern that it will not challenge him enough in the years to come. At what point should I remove him, I am hearing different reviews. Any parents that can assist....Comment please!

From what I've seen, remove him immediately. Abeka is not considered 'education' in many subjects, especially science - your child will be very far behind when he enters a real school. It's just religious propaganda.

The best way to know the quality of service of any company would be to ask previous students. Were they satisfied with what they paid for? Also consider other things: 1 Price - a low price doesn't necessarily mean that it is better. look at the over-all program and value-added services 2 Accessibility 3 Office hours 4 Availability of teachers - ask when the teachers are available for consultation. Some centers say that they have an unlimited program but the teachers come only on specific times. They might not even be able to assist you since they also conduct classes. The most important thing for me is the care of the office staff and the flexibility of the Review center. From what I have heard, World English Reviews has a lot of positive feedback from my friends and they actually adjust to your needs., not the other way around. Maybe because they are a young company and they want to prove something.
