So Cal Pilots - any recommendations/reviews for a good flight school

So Cal Pilots - any recommendations/reviews for a good flight school?
Looking at taking an intro flight and possibly getting my pilot's license. I live near Santa Monica, Hawthorne and Torrance airports. Most flight school websites seem to say the same thing about courses, training hours, etc. I do not want any school that offers DVD training :) When I call and ask about safety, accidents, etc. they're not so friendly on the phone. Not looking for high pressure sales or gimmicks, just a good "intro" or "discovery" flight, and if I continue to lessons, a solid basic course in flight training and safety. p.s. just doing this for myself, not looking for a career in aviation, but you never know...

So do I.Live inCulver City. try Justice Aviation South side of the field.Get to talk with several students and instructors there.I hang around at the Pilots lounge at the beacon tower.Talk to the pilots there. There are cheaper schools at Van nuys and Longbeach for sure.
