How long is normal to be under review for law school

How long is normal to be under review for law school?
I have been tracking my application status on Duke's website and it says my file has been under review for a whole month.

It can take a few months. "Easy decisions" will often be admitted OR rejected within 3-4 weeks, but most applications are "close cases," which will often be held for a few months so that the admissions committee can make a careful decision, in comparison with the rest of the applicant pool, and based on how many other students who were admitted decide to accept/decline admission early on in the admissions season.

Answer 1
Normal, especially since you applied later in the cycle. Earlier in the cycle, being under review for 1-2 months would be a little long. Later on in the cycle, as long as 3-4 months can be normal. I hope you hear back soon and that it's good news!

how do you like my story ? its only 1.5 pages on word, and i need some reviews. its for school.?
i have to write a mini story on anything, but it HAS to incude a spring (pond, mini lake, etc). it doesnt have to do anything (the spring). please read. Im in grade 7; a higher level. so, i need to know what you think of this. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ IT. The Climb By Sophia Being here in the woods, without cell phone reception, a comfy bed, and a good magazine, isn’t my idea of a fun dare. After almost a full day of trying to live on tic tacs, I’m still nowhere near having an idea where I am or where I’m going. I just hope I make it home before I die of thirst. It’s all Jill’s fault. She was the one who made me do that stupid dare. She was the one who threatened to tell everyone I was too chicken to run through the woods at night. Back then, her dare seemed very childish and pointless. But, of course, Jill always has to have her way. I forgot to mention- Jill is my very annoying, but best friend. She is always up for a good game of truth or dare. Lately, her dares have become very dull. But last night, at my first-day-of-summer party, her dares weren’t even worth listening to- except when it came to me. I guess she was saving this one up for the next time I had a party. She dared me to run through the part of the woods that was on my property and back. Everyone knew those woods were haunted. I, of course, knew that my security guard, Fred, had made that story up to keep people from wandering there and getting lost. It seemed like such a stupid dare considering what I know. But Jill thought that I was too scared, and threatened to tell everyone at school. Just to prove I wasn’t afraid, I told her I’d stay there for an hour knowing I can just call Fred if I needed his help. She was surprised at this, but agreed. But when I tried to find my way back, I couldn’t. I listened for music and noise. I watched for lights or fireworks my friends might have set off. I even tried to smell the bonfire- but nothing. I was sure that I was too far for Fred to hear and knew that I was way off my property. I began to get drowsy; but didn’t let myself stop wandering or else I’d be lost forever. At some point, I couldn’t take it anymore, and collapsed. I had no idea where I was headed, and now, a day later, I still don’t. I’m grateful for the fact that I never go anywhere without my purse. I always have a spare snack in there, but this time, I only had a box of tic tacs. At least that’s something to eat. But I have no water. I wondered how long a person can go without water. I gave them three days, tops. So that meant I only had two more days to live! I felt myself getting weaker every minute, and began to miss home even more than I thought was possible. In fact, I stopped missing my TV hours ago, and now missed my fridge; full of wonderful foods and WATER. Somewhere around dusk, I came to a small mountain. I recalled the time I was sitting in my room, staring out the window, and noticed a mountain somewhere in the forest. I guessed that this was the same mountain, because in a place as flat as Alberta, any hill you saw was worth remembering. And if I made it to the top, I would definitely have a better view of where I’m headed. I started to climb uphill, but my heels made the job very tough. After about half an hour, it was getting dark, and I was practically dying of thirst. I made a mental note that if I ever got back home alive, that from now on, I would bring a water bottle with me everywhere and never wear high heels again. When I paused and looked around, it seemed as if I hadn’t just climbed up a mountain for half an hour. Everything looked the same. I promised myself I wouldn’t stop climbing until I reached the top, no matter how thirsty or tired I got. Luckily, during this time of year, the sun didn’t set until late. I continued to miss home drastically, and began to feel grateful for everything I have- even Jill, the one who got me into this entire mess. Soon enough, I noticed that it was practically pitch black outside, but it finally began to look like I was heading somewhere. I ran for a few minutes, which made me even more dehydrated than ever. I looked right ahead, and I only thought of what a relief it would be to make it somewhere, and be a little more in control of the situation. Perhaps I could locate water from atop of the hill. The closer and closer I got, the more desperate I felt. I didn’t even notice that the queasiness in my stomach had moved to my head, until the dehydration overcame me. I was about to faint and fall, but even though my eyes swam, I was positive that I saw something sparkling ahead of me from the moonlight. It looked like water! Just a few…more…steps… When you’re in such a desperate situation as me; you focus on everything you have just to try to make it out of it. I’m grateful that before I collapsed of dehydration, I had enough will power to make it to the small spring that lay just ahead of me, and right below the top of the mount and right below the top of the mountain. Never had anything in the world tasted to amazing to me before. I’ve tried many dishes, but this way pure joy. After I quenched my thirst with that refreshing water, I curled up into a ball, and fell asleep. A week later, my story was published in the local newspaper. The headline was “Life’s a climb, but the view is great”. Even though the headline almost had nothing to do with my adventure, I felt like it still appealed to me. The ‘view’, in my case, was the water near the top of the hill. After getting enough strength to continue, I managed to locate my house from atop of the mountain. About halfway there, I had the help of a few police officers, as well as Fred. Never will I forget how grateful I am for everything I have, and that small spring at the top of the mountain.

I don't know of any rating sites, but I know of a good forum that discusses boarding schools. The prep school admissions forum on talk.collegeconfidential.com is a good place to ask questions and talk to boarding school students.

Can the school still receive my Fafsa

Can the school still receive my Fafsa?
I was thinking about going to an online school, however after reading many reviews about the school I have changed my mind. I went through the application process with the school, and I saw my funding plan, like how much the financial aid would cover, but I did not complete the application can the school still get my money?
Financial Aid - 2 Answers - 2009-05-08 09:26:52

Best Answer
No. When you fill out a fafsa form the information will be sent to the colleges that you indicated on the application. The financial aid office at the college then prepares an award letter for you indicating how much money, in the form of loans and work study, you are eligible for. You then sign the award letter and indicate how much of the money you would like. They money is then applied to your tuition bill. Even if you have done all of this, the money will not be applied/borrowed if you are not registered for any courses or do not have an outstanding balance with the school for that given semester.

All Answers
Answer 1
Probably not, since you will not be enrolled for any classes.

Is Strategy Computers (technical school in Bellevue, WA) a good school? Is it worth the $$$?
My husband is considering attending this school...specifically enrolling in the MCITP - Database Developer/Administrator Program. Tuition is $13,000. I'm looking for anyone who has "graduated" from this school. Was it worth the money? Did they help you get a job? I can't seem to find any school reviews online and that worries me. Thanks in advance.

I live in the northwest and have spent decades in the computer science and university environment, and I've never heard of this place. Why not go to the U of Washington? Any "townie" can take courses without formal admission so long as he isn't aiming for a degree. And I'm sure they offer courses that in effect prepare students for the various industy certificates. It will be a lot less expensive and everybody has heard of UW. Just my opinion and experience here.

Graduated there back in 2000. I thought it was horrible. Very expensive and didn't provide good Job Placement - DESPITE WHAT THEY CLAIM. I would not trust them. I recommend getting a real degree at an accredited institution.

I don't have personal experience w/Penn Foster, but I've heard from students that they are an okay school. But the students also say that Penn Foster cares more about the money than the education and that people in the office are rude sometimes and don't answer emails. I think you are better off with Keystone. Its more expensive, but the staff is friendly and they're accredited at most schools. They're also well known in the home schooling community. But a full credit class is 279 dollars :S

Well, I'm not a Seventh Day Adventist, so I never looked into it too closely. But I think that the church would keep the standards fairly high. Most private church schools that have been around for awhile offer a good education. Those that don't usually go out of business after a few years.

Does graduating from law school make you a lawyer and can you offer legal advice to someone in another state

Does graduating from law school make you a lawyer and can you offer legal advice to someone in another state?
I asked a family member who recently graduated from law school to review and negotiate a contract for me. She did so. She has not taken the bar exam in her state nor in my state, I signed this contract thinking she was already an attorney simply because she graduated from law school, but now I find out she's not fully an attorney yet. The law regarding this type of contract states that a attorney is to review it on my behalf, and now the other parties to this contract are refusing to invalidate the contract. Is she allowed to give me legal advice and help negotiate a contract for me although she may not fully be a lawyer and is that contract valid, now that it has been signed, etc. Or is it no longer enforceable.
Law & Ethics - 12 Answers - 2007-05-24 08:14:15

Best Answer
Pretty strange. Why did you sign the contract if you wish to have it invalidated? Anyway, you did receive legal advice from an accredited attorney. She MAY NOT practice law in the state where she resides until she passes the bar for that state, but she is qualified to render an opinion on a contract. You signed a legal contract and cannot weasel out of it as easily as you might wish. The contract is valid. That said, any contract can be invalidated. All you need do is fail to uphold your obligations in the contract, and it will invalidate it. You will however be held accountable for damages to the other party.

All Answers
Answer 1
Just studying law makes you a lawyer, but that doesn't mean that you are qualified or competent to give advice. It is always best to advise someone to seek professional advice, and not to advise them yourself. They will thank you in the end
2007-05-24 08:18:21

Answer 2
Contract says an atty has to review. She is not an atty. It's their call, but no, not if a valid atty review is required for enforcement.
2007-05-24 08:18:26

Answer 3
She is not a lawyer and she cannot give legal advice. Even if she passed the bar in her own state she should not give legal advice to you if you live in another state since she is not licensed in your state. As to whether or not the contract is valid, that depends on the contract, type of contract, etc. so I recommend you speak to a real laywer in your state that can review the contract.
2007-05-24 08:19:05

Answer 4
The answers are no, and no. Graduating law school is ONE requirement for being a lawyer. But not the only one. They also have to pass the state's bar exam and fulfill other requirements before being formally admitted to practicce law. A license to practice law in one state does not enable you to practice in another.
2007-05-24 08:19:21

Answer 6
no. without passing bar, she is nothing.
2007-05-24 08:21:32

Answer 7
She is not a lawyer until she passes the bar exam and gets her license to practice law. She is not allowed to give you legal advice or practice as a lawyer until those requirements are met. What is at issue is the contract you entered into that allowed you to have "attorney review." You elected to fulfill the "attorney review" requirement by using a law student - depending on the type of contract you entered into, this was a bad move on your part. Your judgment error does not constitute a reason for the other parties to invalidate the contract. Good luck -
2007-05-24 08:31:58

Answer 8
O my God...I cannot believe your relative did that. Your family member broke the law....as lawyers we are not allowed to practice law until we pass the bar and are licensed in the appropriate state. If I have a license in North Carolina I cannot go to South Dakota to deal with legal issues except for a few exceptions...but a rencent graduate is never allowed to practice until they pass the bar. You family member committed what is called the unatuhorized practice of law and if found by the states bar association they will not be allowed to take the bar exam...effectively ending their career, for a while. Negotiating contracts would fall under practicing law so she clearly was wrong. Now for your question if the other side knew she was not a licensed attorney and acted you could have the contract voided because of fraud...but if they asked are you an attorney and she said yes...they are under no obligation to look up her bar number and confirm...so in this case there is no action allowing an invalidation. I am assuming you entered into this contract thinking she was a qualified attorney and ended up with a bad deal....well your only hope unless the other side acted fradulently is to bring an action against your relative in a malpracitce suit before the bar...claiming that she acted wrongfully and you were not aware she could not do it.... As for unlicensed attorneys all they can do is legal info...not legal advice....She could tell you the law: ""A contract requires an offer and acceptance." She cannot give you legal advice..."you should sue and argue these points because what he did was wrong" She pretty much can't do anything until she takes the bar.

Answer 9
a) there is no such thing as 'practicing law w/o a license'. Why? Becuz the supr crt says practicing law is a 'common law Right' and therefore does not need a license. If u need further proof, write ur state capital and ask which dept gives out a 'law license'. They don't. The 'state bar' is more or less a club w/ dues. They can't give themselves a license the same as Doctor's (AMA) can't give themselves a license - only the state can issue a 'license' . b) The law that's above the constitution is the law of contracts. It's been around for thousands of years. In America (all states of the union) u have the fundamental Right to contract. And, 'no rule, code, or law' can interfer w/ ur fundamental Rights' (at least that's what the sup crt says. See Miranda v. AZ.) c) I've spoke on my own behalf in fed crt 3 x's & state crt 5 x's - it's no big deal. Most lawyers I saw in crt were clowns - and if their clients (paying customers) witnessed how they waste time and then charge for it - their customers would b pissed. d) fyi - if u hire an attorney - u r telling the crt u r a child, mentally ill - these are not my words but read the 'legal' definition for attorney. e) vry few lawyers know the law - they are taught procedure. f) lastly, u have the fundamental Right to the assist of councel. This should tell u that u can have the help of anyone u desire. g) Next time, use a para-legal. They generally are more helpful, more friendly, less expensive, and know more then most attorneys. hope this helps
2007-05-24 08:51:46

Answer 10
No, she cannot legally practice law in any State until she has passes that particular state's Bar Association Examination (most don't pass upon the first try). To give out legal advice and represent herself as an attorney before passing the Bar in that state could land her in a world of criminal liability and highly likely prohibit her from pursuing the Bar exam in any State. Additionally, once her deception is discovered, any act that she illegally accomplished could be invalided if the other parties involved wanted to dispute the validity of the contract.

This is my 3rd year in the OHVA high school and I love it. It was a big adjustment during the first year (almost entirely because it is a virtual school and EVERYTHING is online) but it is an excellent school. The teachers are very helpful and the guidance counselors go out of their way to make sure things run smoothly. I have two younger sisters (one in the OHVA middle school and the youngest in elementary) and they also love the program. All three levels cover so much more than "regular" public schools.

It's actually called a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, and you will need to find a program that's CAAHEP accredited (see link). By doing so, you are ensured that you can sit for your boards immediately after graduating, so you can become a Registered Sonographer. http://www.caahep.org/Find-An-Accredited-Program/ Sanford Brown is probably the school you're referring to, and honestly, you are better off finding an Associate's degree program offered at a technical college. This is because SB is a "trade school" where the programs are usually short &/or easy to get into (which makes them appealing), but they charge ridiculous amounts of money, and usually do not have good reputations in the ultrasound community (could make it more difficult for you to find a job). Some of these trade schools ARE accredited, but I would still recommend a local technical college. Good luck :)

Not usually or Maybe a little. There is so much to learn that they won't have the time. It also depends on the school.
